Bikram — Class 3

My third Bikram yoga class went great. No dizziness, no almost passing out! I am excited. Since class #2 on Friday was so hard for me (see previous post) I was a bit concerned about this morning’s class, but all went well. It actually felt really good! I drank a lot of water last night (no wine) and I brought a sports drink instead of plain water to class. Perhaps that helped. Unfortunately with the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, I’ll be traveling and won’t make it back to class for a week. Hopefully I won’t have to start over…

Bikram Yoga — Class 2

I managed to go back to Bikram yoga yesterday. I figure I should go a few times to give it a fair shake before I make a decision on whether or not it is for me. My second class was actually harder than the first! I think that is because in my first class I was just trying to get through the class and do everything as best I could, while this time I was concentrating on trying to do things with the right form, and so needless to say it was tougher! I got a bit dizzy and had to sit down for a few of the postures. Another difference is that I tried a different time. Rather than 4pm I went at 9am. The studio certainly smelled better at 9am! The class went from 9-10:30, I spent the next 2 hours cooling down! I finally stopped sweating and took a shower at 12:30 and got on with my day. On a good note, I was in an endorphin high for the rest of the day!

Bikram Yoga

Yesterday I tried Bikram Yoga…it was interesting. I think I liked it. I think I have to give it a few sessions to know for sure. Bikram is a sequence of 26 Hatha yoga poses practiced in a very hot room (105 degrees). Needless to say you sweat–a lot! But, the heat keeps your muscles warm and allows you to safely stretch way beyond what you could otherwise do. These 26 postures works every part of the body.

I went to the class with my daughter, Kelsey. She works at at Bikram Yoga Reston in Virginia. Kelsey is always talking about the benefits of Bikram so I thought I should give it a try. It really did feel good. The endorphins were flowing along with the sweat! This morning I felt good too. I could feel that I worked my body and I still had a “happy” feeling. (But of course that could have been from the fact she was visiting!)

I’m going to give it a try. The studio near me, Bikram Yoga Portsmouth has a great introductory offer, $10 for 10 consecutive days. My schedule doesn’t allow for 10 consecutive days, but if I get there 4 or 5 days out of 10 I’ll consider that quite good! I’ll let you know how it goes!
