Prophetic Poetry

“You Learn”

I was digging through some old papers and photos and I came upon this poem which I copied down in high school.  WOW. It must have been a message from the teenage me to my future self!

After a while you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul,

And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,

And you begin to accept your defeats
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,

And you learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.

After a while you learn…
That even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So you plant your garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you learn that you really can endure…

That you really are strong

And you really do have worth…

And you learn and learn…

With every good-bye you learn.”

Love With No Place To Go

A beautiful thought for today

Optimists Rule!

Something to think about today…

The World of Achievement has Always Belonged to the Optimist

It’s always easier to be negative, but lets look on the positive side of things today and be optimistic about the future.  We may even bring about positive change in the life of someone else too.

Words of Inspiration

I often come upon beautiful inspirational thoughts. Sometimes I write them down to remember for later, but often they are written on random scraps of paper never to be found again.  I  decided to include inspirational thoughts as part of this blog and share them here in under their own heading so that we can refer back to them when we need a little inspiration.  Feel free to comment with words or phrases that you find inspirational and I’ll add them so we can share the joy.  Here is one for today:

“There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free.

Don’t miss so many of them.”
