Two Good Races

This week I had two good races.  Typically I wouldn’t run 2 races in a week, but the first race on Sunday was a 5K and was part of the Seacoast Road Race series that I had committed to.  The second race on Tuesday was the Yankee Homecoming 10 Mile race.  As this is the only 10 miler I tend to do, and I missed last year, I wanted to get it in this year.

Both races went great.  The 5K was York Home Days in York, Maine.  It was a great course, pretty flat and goes along the ocean for a a while.  My time was good, 24:59 — 8:03 pace.  2014-07-29 09.05.29

(So far this year, I have only broken the 8 minute pace once in a 5K, but I’ve been very close a few times.)   I did come in 2nd in my age group, and got this visor!

As for the Yankee Homecoming 10 mile race, I wanted to come in at 1 hour and 30 minutes (9 minute pace), but I really thought that was unrealistic and so I figured anything between 1:30 and 1:35 would be good.  Two years ago when I ran the race my time was 1:35:25.

Well I am quite pleased to say that I not only beat my last time, but I been my goal, finishing in 1:28:46 — Woo Hoo!  Of course I was totally spent at the end of the race, and when I woke up this morning, even my toes hurt!  (I think I need some new foot beds in my running shoes.)

But I am feeling great now and looking ahead to mixing in more distance running as I prepare for a half marathon in the fall.
