A Nice Night for a 10 Mile Run

Woo Hoo, I did it!  I ran and finished the Newburyport Yankee Homecoming 10 miler last night!

I was a little anxious as I haven’t run 10 miles yet this season.  My training consisted of a 7 and an 8.5 mile run over the past few weeks.  I was even trying to think of a way to gracefully get out of it.  But since my two friends were meeting me at the race, and they were only doing it because I suggested it, I really had to go through with it!

The race started at Newburyport High School.   As soon as I got there, registered and saw the crowds I was excited!  I’d done this race in the past so I was familiar with the course, and the weather was good — a little cooler than its been and overcast — really perfect.

My strategy was to do the 10 miles as a run, not a race, so I ran at a comfortable pace most of the way… a very pleasant way to go!  I was strong on the hills and very happy at the 8 mile mark.  As I felt good, I picked it up a bit for the last 2 miles and gave it my all in the end!  I ended up running it at a 9:33 pace.  This was slower than my half marathon pace last fall, but I was trained and ready for that one!

All in all, I was happy.  The race felt good and the pace was very good for a long training run.

That is awesome. You should be happy with your effort and the outcome… Very cool. It does help when you have others involved to keep you from backing out, doesn’t it? :), Susan Cooper/BHB LinkedIn

  2. That is great news!! Congratulations!!. You take it as a run, and finished it. Each success will lead to the next challenge. I think, you already started thinking of the next one. Am I right?
